The adventure of a lifetime

Having followed in the family tradition of watchmaking, Johannes O. Vranek changed the trajectory of the business when a customer entered his store with thirteen blue sapphires.
Driven by curiosity and fuelled by the adventure stories he immersed himself in as a child, he made the intrepid journey to a pineapple farm in Thailand in the 1960s to investigate the origin of the gems. This expedition was the first of many to exotic destinations around the world, carefully selecting and collecting beautiful gemstones along the way.

From dining with Maharajas to adventurous dealings in the mines of Columbia, Thailand, and other foreign lands, he evolved from a respected watch and goldware businessman to a gemstone expert and international jeweller, winning 21 industry awards.
